RENO — As Sunday’s solar eclipse nears, the Fleishmann Planetarium and Science Center at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeing great interest in the purchase of solar viewers. In fact, the planetarium has sold about 17,000 viewers and is currently out of stock. More are expected to arrive mid-day today, but it is anticipated this additional shipment will go quickly.
UNR experts remind residents that it is not safe to watch the solar eclipse without taking special precautions. However, there are safe ways to view the eclipse other than with a purchased solar viewer. The planetarium has created a special website, www.eclipsereno.unr.edu, for the eclipse event website and it includes more information.
