RENO — A 52-year-old northern Nevada woman has been sentenced to four to 10 years in prison for fatally shooting her boyfriend hours after the couple celebrated her birthday.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports (http://on.rgj.com/JWPXx) Cynthia Ann Bucher of Sun Valley was sentenced Thursday in the death of 46-year-old Danny Ray Grossen.
She’d pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the case.
Authorities say the couple had gone out to a birthday dinner earlier, and Grossen bought a present for his girlfriend from Wal-Mart before the killing May 16, 2009.
Bucher says Grossen wanted help committing suicide. She says her alcoholism was also a factor.
But prosecutors say the shooting happened after the couple had a drunken argument.
A poodle named Junior was also found shot with the same gun used to kill Grossen.
