RENO — The National Weather Service is warning that the dry windy weather blowing into Nevada on Thursday will create critical wildfire conditions across most of the state south of U.S. Interstate 80.

A Red Flag warning is in effect from noon until 10 p.m. Thursday from Reno stretching south of Las Vegas and to the east as far as White Pine County near the Utah border.

The warning also applies to parts of the Sierra's eastern front in California's Mono and Alpine counties

The weather service says winds gusting up to 40 mph will arrive ahead of a cold front approaching the Great Basin Thursday afternoon. The winds combined with very low relative humidity and already dry conditions will boost the fire threats into Thursday night.
