SPARKS — Thirty-one years is an impressive series of wins. The city of Sparks has once again achieved the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2011 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
For the 31st consecutive year, the city received this award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada.
“The city of Sparks is dedicated to applying objective and sound facts in order to improve results in the budget process,” Sparks Mayor Geno Martini said. “Better information enables our City Council and managers to learn from experience and apply that knowledge to better serve the public in our planning, funding and operations. I congratulate the city’s financial team for their continued hard work.”
“As accounting and financial reporting standards evolve, Sparks ensures its financial reporting fully implements those standards and techniques,” said Sparks City Manager Shaun Carey. “This ongoing commitment to being at the forefront is the reason the city of Sparks has received the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reportingfor 31 years and is a positive reflection on the dedicated group from the city’s Financial Services Department.”
The CAFR is judged by an impartial panel to meet high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential uses and user groups to read the CAFR.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving more than 17,500 government finance professionals throughout North America.
