RENO — Over the last 16 years, Artown has been putting Reno on the map. Artown, held annually July 1 – 31, is a month-long celebration dedicated to arts and culture events and attracts 300,000 attendees. The July 2012 calendar includes nearly 500 events: 359 standalone events, 102 workshops and 33 ongoing exhibits. More than 130 presenters contribute to the diverse calendar for adults and families filled with music, dance, theater, performance, film and workshops.

Artown brings distinguished artists from around the world, across the country and those who live in our community all for the sake of cultural diversity and artistic innovation. The cornerstone of the festival is its free events, more than 60 percent throughout July, including July 1 opening night with The Mickey Hart Band featuring Mickey Hart, lead percussionist with the Grateful Dead, and closing night July 31 with funk legend Maceo Parker.

Over the years, Artown has welcomed internationally and nationally renowned artists, including Marcel Marceau, the Harlem Gospel Choir, Diavolo Dance Theater, Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Pilobolus, Mikhail Baryshnikov, American Ballet Theater and Pink Martini.

Artown events take place at approximately 115 locations throughout Reno, Sparks and includes venues at South Lake Tahoe and Virginia City. The festival’s main location is Wingfield Park, located along the Truckee River in downtown Reno.
