The Sparks softball team wrapped up its season with a Mount Rose League doubleheader against Truckee on Tuesday afternoon, but unfortunately for the Maroon and Gold faithful the Railroaders lost twice, 6-0 and 26-11.

“We played very well, but we just couldn’t generate runs,” Sparks coach Frank Avilla said. “Their pitcher did a good job. We just couldn’t get anything going today. We hit the ball at them. Truckee’s a good team.

“It was a good year all-in-all. We learned a lot and competed well.”

After three scoreless innings in the first game, the Wolverines broke the drought with a five-run fourth frame with only two runs being earned. Truckee tacked on an additional run in the fifth inning, resulting in the 6-0 final.

Game 2 saw the bats liven up for the Railroaders, but so did the THS bats.

Truckee pushed six runs home in the first inning, followed by two in the second. A pair of four-run innings came in the fourth and fifth frames for the Wolverines, before they poured it on in the top of the sixth with a 10-spot of runs for the mercy-rule shortened 26-11 victory.

A bright spot for SHS (4-21, 3-9 Mount Rose) came when senior Lucia Lopez hit a home run in her final game for the Railroaders.
