RENO — The Committee to Aid Abused Women (CAAW) will honor Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto today during the 30th annual Hannah Humanitarian Award Luncheon honoring individuals committed to ending domestic violence in our community.
CAAW supporters, representatives from AT&T, NV Energy, the Washoe County Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association and many more local businesses will come together at 11:30 a.m. at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa to celebrate those helping people affected by domestic violence and engage the business community in domestic violence awareness and prevention. The Hannah Humanitarian Award Luncheon is CAAW’s major annual fundraiser and all proceeds go to help those affected by domestic violence.
In 2011, CAAW provided 8,035 bed nights, shelter for 227 women and children and processed nearly 3,700 motions and protection orders for women and families in the northern Nevada community. In this same year, volunteers and staff also handled more than 10,000 calls through the crisis hotline.
