RENO — Granite Construction Company announced Monday that the company has been awarded the Gold Level Excellence in Partnering Award by the Caltrans Partnering Program for the Truckee River Canyon project.
The Truckee River Canyon project consisted of highway reconstruction along the five-mile, narrow and winding interstate at the California-Nevada border. The project included reconstructing the worn and battered roadway section, replacing the existing concrete median barrier and the existing metal beam guardrail, improving drainage and increasing roadway widths where space allowed. The team also constructed a concrete barrier along the shoulder to improve safety concerns.
“The entire team working together is what made this project,” said Rod Cooper, regional manager of Granite Construction. “The most significant accomplishment was being that we completed a designed three-year project in two years, keeping the best interest of the traveling public in mind.”
The Caltrans Partnering Program recognizes contractors that distinguish themselves by delivering successful highway projects in California both safely and efficiently. Awards are based on partnering best practices and the Caltrans training tools, delivering lower costs, shorter construction schedules and fewer disruptions to the traveling public along with practicing problem-solving and dispute resolution.
