SPARKS – At 4 p.m. Thursday, the Sparks Fire Department will hold its 17th Annual Commendation Awards Ceremony at the department’s headquarters at 1605 Victorian Ave. The ceremony is held to recognize outstanding actions and performances by fire department employees, local citizens and businesses during the past year. Friends and family members, as well as the public, are encouraged to attend.
Captain Joe Warner is the department’s Firefighter of the Year and will be awarded with a plaque, a commendation bar and certificate at the ceremony.
Alberto Cruiz will receive the Citizen Commendation letter and certificate for his assistance during a fire on Oct. 26, 2011.
Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Walsh will receive the Citizen Commendation letter and certificate for their assistance during a rollover accident on Baring Boulevard and Round Mountain Road.
Jenny Lewis will receive the City Employee Distinguished Service ribbon for her tireless assistance to the Sparks Fire Department during promotional exams.
Fire Apparatus Operator Tyler Carson will receive a Medal of Merit for his outstanding efforts on Nov. 27, 2011, when he discovered a structure fire while on his way home from the store with his family.
Five other employees will receive commendation bars and certificates for their outstanding dedication to duty in aiding citizens in need and in helping to keep the citizens of Sparks fire safe.
