RENO — The Fort Worth, Texas-based National Cutting Horse Associaton’s Western National Championships, presented by the Four Sixes Ranch, will tread new ground at the Reno Livestock Events Center April 28 through May 8. The show moved for the first time ever from its original host in Ogden, Utah to Reno this year.

“We are very excited that the Western Nationals will be in Reno next year,” said NCHA President Keith Deaville. “Numerous NCHA-approved shows have been held in Reno before. The city’s location, quality and quantity of hotels and restaurants, reputation for great hospitality, first-class cutting facilities and the desire to ‘roll out the red carpet’ for cutters will help make this a great show for our members.”

The Reno Livestock Events Center features more than 600 stalls, efficient cattle facilities, covered loping arenas, ample RV hookups, concession services and plenty of space on the concourse for vendors.

The Western National Championships is a sister event with its counterpart, the Eastern National Championships, held earlier in the year in Jackson, Miss. Qualifications for these two shows are based on competing in weekend shows in the 12 approved NCHA classes across the United States and Canada during 2011.

Classes begin each day at 8 a.m. with free admission to the public. In addition to the cutting action, the National Youth Cutting Horse Association will hold a team cutting and business meeting May 4 and 5, respectively. Exhibitors will feature Western clothing, tack, jewelry, home décor and more.

The National Cutting Horse Association has more than 20,000 members from a wide range of backgrounds. Each year more than 2,200 NCHA-approved events are held throughout North America, with more than $40 million in prize money awarded.
