The additional suspect was in possession of stolen property. Sheriff’s detectives identified items reportedly pawned by Greene at a local pawn shop as being stolen from a residence in Incline Village during an early January. These items included a sentimental watch that belonged to a victim of a residential burglary.
Further investigation revealed Greene had also pawned three guns and that he is an ex-felon, according to sheriff’s spokesman Armando Avina. Under federal and state laws, ex-felons are prohibited from possessing firearms.
Greene was convicted in 2006 by a Washoe County court for felony possession of narcotics. Sheriff’s detectives conducted several surveillances during the past two weeks and on one occasion they observed Greene inside the local Cabela’s Retail Store handling several firearms.
Greene was arrested as he was leaving a home in south Reno. A subsequent search of his residence revealed two handguns and a shotgun that belong to him. Sheriff’s detectives suspect Greene was trading stolen property and pawning it to fuel his drug habit, Avina said..
Greene was arrested for 12 counts of ex-felon in possessing a firearm and a felony failure to appear warrant issued following a Reno Police Department possession of a controlled substance case. Greene’s bail is set at $47,440. Additional charges will be forthcoming related to possession of stolen property and burglary according to detectives.
The investigation is ongoing. Detectives are attempting to identify the legitimate owners of the six firearms.
