RENO — A registered sex offender was arrested Wednesday evening for failing to change his home address with authorities.

Cameron Scott Catanio, 29, was taken into custody by detectives with the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit who received a tip alleging high-risk sex offender was living in Lemmon Valley in violation of his offender registration requirements. Officials learned that Catanio was living in the 400 block of Niles Way, where he was taken into custody without incident. He had reported a different address in Reno to the Reno Police Department. Catanio had been at the Niles Way address since at least April 2011. Catanio told police that he didn’t list the Niles Way address to avoid having flyers distributed in his neighborhood as required by state law. Sex offenders are required to provide their new address, in person, to the local law enforcement agencies in the jurisdictions they have moved to and from. Catanio was booked at the Washoe County jail. His bail was set at $5,000.

The RSONU asks anyone with information about Catanio, or any other sex offender who is unregistered or out of compliance, to call 353-2244, or Secret Witness at 322-4900 or report online at www.secretwitness.com
