Investigators from the Prince George County Police Department and FBI initiated a nationwide Amber Alert in the search for a child believed to have been taken across state lines. Information was also developed that the suspect, Silvia Guadalupe Garcia, the child’s mother, had a sister who lives in Reno. The Reno office of the FBI was called to assist in the investigation. Detectives from the Regional Street Enforcement Team (SET), were called by the FBI in Reno to assist in following investigative leads.
In Reno, FBI agents and detectives located the sister and learned that Garcia and the child were on a flight to Reno that had originated from Maryland. Once this flight landed, the suspect was met at the gate by FBI agents and detectives. Garcia was served with a warrant from Maryland and booked into the Washoe County jail, where she is awaiting extradition back to Maryland.
The child, who was unharmed, was placed with Washoe County Child Protective Services. Arrangements have been made to return the child to his father.
