Robert Mayfield was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center this morning with non-life threatening injuries after a jaunt along Interstate-80 east bound, near the Victorian Avenue interchange.

According to troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol, Mayfield, an elderly man with no fixed address, attempted to cross the interstate around 11:30 this morning. Mayfield was in the far right travel lane, troopers said, when a small passenger bus allegedly hit the man with its right side mirror.

Troopers said that two more motorists avoided hitting Mayfield, but were involved in a separate collision immediately following.

Both motorists claimed injury but were not transported to the hospital.

The accident closed the far right travel lane on I-80 for about one hour while troopers investigated the incident.

Mayfield had no identification on him at the time of the incident, troopers said. But he identified himself verbally as one Robert Mayfield.

Witnesses to the accident, or anyone with additional information, including family members of Mayfield, should contact the Nevada Highway Patrol at 688-2500 regarding case No. 0808120693.
