SPARKS — The Sons and Daughters of Erin held a cultural celebration Sunday at the Sparks Heritage Museum that doubled as a fundraiser for the museum.

A crowd of more than 75 watched a performance by dancers from the Blanchette School of Irish Dance in the new cultural center on the museum’s second floor. On the first floor, the museum currently is hosting an exhibit of Celtic items on loan from various members of the community.

Incoming President William Puchert said the organization also named its Irish Person of the Year, Greg Harrington, who was honored for his work setting up a fund for the trees planted at St. Patrick’s Grove at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno.

“We were honored and humbled to have a reception here at the museum,” Puchert said. “The exhibit really is a reflection of the local Celtic community.”

On Saturday, the 43rd annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner and Show will be held at the Best Western Airport Plaza Hotel, 1981 Terminal Way in Reno. For more information, call 378-0931 or visit www.irishnv.org. An event honoring local Scottish heritage is set for April 21 at the museum. For more information, visit www.sparksmuseum.org.
