That application came from veteran Reno attorney Scott Freeman, 54, who is in private practice.
A second attorney also filed for election, but did not apply for appointment.
Perry, 68, died Dec. 20 in Reno. He had served on the Washoe County bench since being appointed in 2005 to succeed Judge James W. Hardesty, who had been elected to the Nevada Supreme Court.
The commission will conduct a background investigation and interview the applicant to determine if the commission should submit Freeman’s name to Gov. Brian Sandoval, who will make the appointment.
Freeman’s application is being posted on the Supreme Court website, www.nevadajudiciary.us. Click on “Commissions and Committees” and then on “Commission on Judicial Selection.”
The appointee will serve through 2012 and, if retained in the November General Election, will serve the remainder of Judge Perry’s term, which ends in January 2015.
