NORTH LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 78-year-old Henderson woman has been ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and will lose her driver’s license for two years after an October car crash that killed a 6-year-old girl and badly hurt two other children.
KTNV Channel 13 reports that Alice Alava pleaded no contest Thursday to five misdemeanor counts against her.
Alava was accused of unlawfully passing vehicles stopped for a pedestrian in a crosswalk, failure to give full time and attention while driving and three counts of failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
The Oct. 21 accident at a crosswalk near a park severely injured Alyssa and Rain Mowery. Amelia Decker died of her injuries several days later.
Decker’s family has said they forgive Alava.
