The Douglas Tigers earned their seventh straight trip to the Northern 4A semifinals after dumping McQueen 62-42 in a regional quarterfinal in Minden Wednesday night.

“Our kids came out and played well, right from the start.” Douglas coach Corey Thacker said. “We put together a good gameplan. McQueen is a good team. They still came out and knocked down some threes at the end, but our kids played pretty solid through the whole game.”

Douglas took a 12-8 lead at the first quarter’s conclusion. It then outscored McQueen 19-8 in the second quarter en route to grabbing a 30-17 lead by halftime.

Douglas, the Sierra League’s regular season champion, didn’t let up after the break. The Tigers won the third quarter 17-9, pushing their edge to 47-26 heading into the final period.

McQueen did have its best quarter of the game in the fourth, winning it 16-15, but it proved to be far too little, too late.

Connor Hughes and Hunter Myers led Douglas on offense, finishing with 20 and 19 points respectively.

Kendall Dewees was the lone McQueen player to hit for double digits in the scoring column. He had 19 points.

“At this stage, you have life when you get a win,” Thacker said. “That’s our goal, one more win. We need one more win. That’s the focus of everything we do.”
