RENO — The public is invited to an informational open house meeting regarding the Moana Lane widening project from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Regional Transportation Commission’s boardroom, 2050 Villanova Drive in Reno.

Construction on the project is expected to begin in May. The building demolition phase, which began in September, will be complete in March. Utility relocation work is underway in advance of the road construction to begin in the coming months.

RTC crews will widen Moana Lane to six lanes from Baker Lane to the U.S. 395 southbound ramps.

RTC’s purpose for the project is to reduce congestion and provide future capacity for the resort and commuter corridor. In addition to adding one travel lane and bike lanes in each direction, Moana Lane and the intersections at South Virginia Street and Kietzke Lane will be reconstructed.

Other improvements include, but are not limited to, new traffic signals, sidewalks, curb and gutter work and landscaping.

During today’s meeting, the RTC will give business owners, property owners and residents an opportunity to preview construction plans and discuss construction and traffic issues before work begins.

The public is invited to stop in at any point during the meeting to view the plans and receive additional information.

RTC will also announce various ways the public can stay informed about the project and give input. The project is expected to be completed in December.

For more information about the project, contact RTC project manager Doug Maloy at or by phone at 335-1865.
