LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas say a 46-year-old man sought by family members, friends and a search-and-rescue team in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area was last seen Jan. 16.

Las Vegas police Officer Laura Meltzer said Tuesday that foul play isn’t suspected in Ronald Kirk’s disappearance.

Meltzer says Kirk sent a text message Jan. 17 saying he was going hiking in Las Vegas.

Family members reported him missing Sunday.

Kirk is 5-foot-9 and 145 pounds. Police say he’s an avid outdoorsman.

His vehicle was found Monday in the rugged Calico Basin area about 15 miles west of Las Vegas, but searchers on foot and in helicopters found no trace of him.

Meltzer says the air search is suspended, but a ground search continues.
