This past weekend in Fresno, Adriana Newell competed against the best California had to offer and claimed fourth in the 600-yard run and 12th in the 55 meters.

Nevada athletes were allowed to compete in the meet if they qualified in the top three in other meets in California. Newell also qualified in the 800 meters but did not race in the event because it was right after the 600-yard run.

Newell initially ran in the 55 meters at the state championships. She claimed first in one of the 16 heat races with a time of 7.30 seconds. Only 12 girls reached the finals, and Newell finished last with a time of 7.36 seconds.

She came back a couple hours later to run the 600 yards. She crossed the finish line in 1:31.69, which was good enough for fourth.
