Are you a native Nevadan? Do you take pride in being born and raised right here in Reno? How many people do we know who are truly Nevadan and not out-of-state transplants? Not too many!

Native or transplant, let’s embrace everyone who chooses to make Nevada their home. Amid our state’s continuing economic uncertainty, I hope these true stories of new residents who have found joy and success here make your holiday spirit bright.

Fred and Kim from Arizona

Fred is a chemist who was offered a position in a busy trauma unit at a large hospital. Before leaving Arizona, Fred and Kim rented out their Arizona home to cover the mortgage payments for their new home. Now it was a matter of deciding where that home would be.

Remembering their many enjoyable visits to Reno when they came here to ski, Fred and Kim contacted me and asked me to take them house hunting. I introduced them to Spanish Springs and Wingfield Springs. Noting the peace and beauty the area has to offer, the couple decided to buy a gorgeous two-story home in Wingfield Springs.

Hector and Kristen from Connecticut

Hector is an experienced accountant, managing a small staff. Hector transferred here during the summer while his house in Connecticut was listed on the market. He was initially nervous about carrying the burden of paying two mortgages. With the help of an experienced loan officer, however, he was able to purchase his Wingfield Springs home with a second VA loan and no money down. Shortly after moving into his new home in Wingfield Springs, his home in Connecticut sold. It seems that the Silver State has already brought Hector and Kristen some good fortune!

Christine from California

My close friend Christine moved here over six years ago from California. Christine is a self-employed professional writer. She is fortunate that she can write from anywhere, therefore her decision to relocate here wasn’t due to a job transfer. Her deciding factors were the lower cost of living, the lack of state income tax and the great weather. It just made good financial sense. Since moving here, Christine’s business has skyrocketed. It is a win-win situation for any of the self-employed professionals who move here.

She and her husband purchased a beautiful and affordable home near Golden Eagle Regional Park in Wingfield Springs. All that scenic, open space allows them to embrace an authentic northern Nevada outdoor leisure lifestyle.

On the business side, Christine is maximizing on the lower costs of living and the abundance of great business opportunities. She has unlimited networking opportunities with local business owners while maintaining her out of state relationships as well. Christine is another new Nevadan who made the right decision moving here.

The Biggest Little City is an exceptional place to live and raise a family. This isn’t just a gambling city anymore. The Sparks area is a newer suburb and has excellent schools, new housing developments, new shopping centers, gorgeous golf courses, unlimited hiking trails, and an energized night life. There is something for everyone.

Do you know someone considering a move to Northern Nevada? Pass this along to them and welcome them with open arms! We truly are the melting pot of the west and proud of it.
