In the league win, Reed took advantage of four Reno forfeits for a free 24 points. Those were all key in an 18-point win.
The dual was tied at 30-30 when Reed won the last three matches. Reno forfeited wins to the Raiders two defending state champions, Broc Westlake (195 pounds) and Spencer Empey (220 pounds).
Reed wrapped up the dual with a win at heavyweight by freshman Albin Gang, who collected a third-round pin.
In the non-conference dual against Green Valley, Reed gave up the first 64 points to the visiting Gators. GV won the first 11 matches of the dual.
Reed’s first win came from Westlake at 195s where he earned a second-round pin. Empey won by an injury default and Albin won by forfeit. Those were the Raiders’ lone wins of the night against Green Valley.
“It’s good to get that league win. We hadn’t beaten Reno in three years,” Reed coach Dan Barraza said. “And now we know what the best in the state looks like too. We’ve got to pick it up, but it’s good for our kids in the long run.”
