On Saturday at the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Myrtle Beach, SC, Anthony Ocegueda competed in the Midget Boys race, finishing the 3K run with a time of 10:46.17, which was good enough for 81st place out of 276 competitors from around the country.

Representing the Silver State Striders, this was the first year the Mendive Middle School seventh grader has competed in these types of races.

Ocegueda had to earn his spot at the national race by advancing through the Pacific Association Championship in Folsom, Calif. on Nov. 20 and the Region 14 Championships in Tulare, Calif. a week later. Region 14 includes the Central California and Pacific Associations, and is one of 16 regionals in the United States, although four regionals were uncontested this year.

Ocegueda crossed the finish line in 10:32.78 and earned himself a sixth-place finish out of 37 runners at his regional event.

The Midget class includes athletes who were born in 1999 or 2000.
