The yellow burn code applies to southern Washoe County from Washoe Valley to Cold Springs.
The code addresses all solid fuels including wood, pellets, fire logs and coal.
The Truckee Meadows is experiencing elevated levels of fine particulate air pollution. The air quality index is currently in the upper end of the moderate range. Fine particulate levels declined overnight due to the wood burning cessation under the red burn code. However, still conditions and a temperature inversion continue to trap pollutants close to the ground and in our breathing zone.
The yellow burn code is a voluntary stage when citizens are asked to stop burning. While the yellow code is voluntary, curtailing wood burning during the yellow can be the most important action one can take to help
our community avoid reaching unhealthful levels of air pollution.
