SPARKS — A 26-year-old Reno resident is in the hospital after being hit by a train on the tracks just east of Galletti Way on Monday.

At about 8:30 p.m., Sparks police responded to the area on a report of the incident. Initially, the victim’s injuries were thought to be minor. However, upon further examination by hospital personnel, the injuries required hospitalization.

The victim’s name is being withheld at this time.

It is unclear at this time if the pedestrian was actually struck by the locomotive or if he had fallen previous to the locomotive passing him. Alcohol consumption on the part of the pedestrian could be a factor in the incident, police said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Sparks Police Department at 353-2231.
