SPARKS — A 17-year-old male has been arrested for robbing a 64-year-old woman at a bank.

At 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sparks police officers responded to the Wells Fargo Bank at 2105 Oddie Blvd. on a report of a robbery. Officers met with the victim, who told them that she had been withdrawing cash from the ATM at the bank when she was approached by a man who grabbed the ATM card from her and attempted to take the cash she had just withdrawn. The victim was able to hold on to the cash however the suspect fled on a skateboard with the ATM card.

Witnesses followed the suspect to the nearby K-Mart store and told officers that he had left his skateboard and some items of clothing that he had removed near the store before fleeing on foot west toward El Rancho Drive. An officer checking the area saw the suspect near the entrance to an apartment complex on El Rancho and attempted to stop him. The suspect tried to run but officers caught him and took him into custody. The suspect denied any involvement in the robbery, however he had the victim’s ATM card in his possession, according to police. The suspect was taken to the juvenile detention center where he was booked for robbery.

The victim in this case was not injured and her ATM card was recovered.
