SPARKS — Just a few days ago, Christian Morgan boarded a Nugget Air flight from Monterey, Calif. to Reno for a bachelor party at John Ascuaga’s Nugget. Today, the Carmel native will return home more than $1.2 million richer.

Late Monday afternoon, Morgan started out playing the $1 Wheel of Fortune slot machine with a $20 bill. A few minutes later he could not believe his eyes as three Wheel of Fortune logos lined up in front of him. At first he thought he won $1,500. A John’s Club player’s card representative pointed out that he actually won the statewide progressive jackpot of $1,243,477.47.

“I’m still wondering where Ashton Kutcher is,” Morgan said in disbelief, as an International Game Technology (IGT) representative wrote his name on a giant check. “He’s going to jump out and tell me I’m being punk’d!”

Morgan works as a caddie at Pebble Beach Golf Course and is an avid surfer. He said he is most looking forward to buying a new surfboard.

The $1,243,477.47 jackpot was the largest progressive slot machine jackpot ever won at John Ascuaga’s Nugget. The jackpot was verified and paid out by IGT since it was a statewide progressive machine.
