RENO — The two former chefs at the Siena Hotel Casino are grinning ear-to-ear today. One year ago, both chefs and hundreds of other workers were facing uncertain times when their then employer, the Siena Hotel Casino, unexpectedly closed. The Siena has since reopened under new management and the two chefs wish the hotel casino well. But they’ve moved on.

Juan Villa and Eduardo Quevedo opened Krumblz Deli & Bakery on the corner of Second and Giroux streets, across the street from Renown Regional Medical Center, in October 2010. They hired their former wait staffs to fill positions in their new restaurant and are now gearing up for their successful first year anniversary celebration on Sunday. They’ve even added an additional four cooks who were previously employed at the Siena to their team.

Krumblz Deli and Bakery boasts freshly baked bread, French pastries and a delicious array of breakfast and lunch entrees that patrons describe as “bursting with flavor.”

On Sunday, the first anniversary celebration features a free slice of cake beginning at 11 a.m. The anniversary special lunch will be $6.95 for either a pulled pork, chicken breast or brisket barbecue sandwich served with kettle chips and a fountain drink. Custom cakes ordered during the anniversary celebration will be 25 percent off.

Patrons who visit Krumblz for breakfast or lunch on Sunday can enter to win some impressive prizes. The more meals patrons enjoy at Krumblz, the more entries they can have for the prize drawings. Drawings for prizes will begin at 11 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. Prizes include one dozen pastries, a gift certificate for $500 toward a Krumblz custom cake order, an office party for six off the Krumblz catering menu and a Lavazza coffee gift basket valued at more than $100. Winners need not be present to win.

“We built Krumblz to make delicious desserts and entrees for our neighbors and the Reno community,” Villa said. “We use only the freshest ingredients and offer original and innovate flavors through traditional baked goods. Our breads are used to provide one-of-a-kind sandwiches and our pastries are created with ingenuity and simplicity. While they’re beautiful to behold, they’re even better to eat.”

Krumblz offers both indoor and covered outdoor dining for breakfast and lunch seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Wifi is available at the restaurant.

Krumblz also offers offsite catering, custom designed cakes and French inspired pastry options for weddings, parties and special events.

Krumblz is located at 80 Giroux St., suite 102. Reach them at 775-824-0700 or visit Krumblz online at
