CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — First Lady Kathleen Sandoval is urging Nevada families to participate in a family dinner day as part of a national effort to keep children off drugs.

Sandoval said she and the governor are planning on having dinner Monday with their children to mark the occasion.

Family Day was established in 2001 by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University. The center says the family connection that comes from eating dinner together is an effective tool to keep children away from drug and alcohol abuse in the future.
