LAS VEGAS (AP) — An inmate is recovering after guards shot him while he reportedly attempted to escape a Clark County state prison over the weekend.
The Nevada Department of Corrections said they responded to an alarm from a perimeter fence at the High Desert State Prison about 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
Gaspar Barajas-Rivas was hit after guards fired two warning rounds and several live shots. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Barajas-Rivas is serving a prison term of two years to 20 years after he was sentenced in Washoe County in 2005 for lewdness with a minor.
Officials say the attempted jailbreak is still under investigation.
