Kelly was one of four people killed Sept. 6 when a gunman opened fire at an IHOP restaurant in Carson City.
Born on May 20, 1976, in Metairie, La., Kelly attended the Military College of Vermont (Norwich University). Upon graduation, Kelly was commissioned as a second lieutenant of field artillery in 1998. After serving at Fort Hood, Texas, for several years, Kelly was promoted to the rank of captain and served in South Korea and in 2004 in Iraq. Appointed to the Nevada Army National Guard in July 2005, Kelly and family settled in Reno.
On Saturday, Kelly’s family will hold a memorial service in his hometown, Kenner, La. Kelly is survived by his wife, Tracy, daughter Kassidy and son Tristan.
The Heath Austin Kelly Memorial Trust fund will serve as a tribute to Kelly’s memory and dreams for his children to achieve higher education. Visitors to the website are also encouraged to submit their stories and memories of Kelly so the children are able to learn more about their father through their kind words.
