SPARKS — A recreational volleyball league for girls in third through eighth grade will be held at the Alf Sorensen Community Center from Sept. 26 through Nov. 12.

Dig It! is designed to be fun for everyone, and a prior knowledge of volleyball is not required.

One-hour practices and games take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The first four practices feature a group clinic in which new players learn volleyball basics, such as serving, passing, setting, spiking, rotation and rules of the game. Participants are split into three groups: third- and fourth-graders; fifth- and sixth-graders; and seventh- and eighth-graders.

Cost is $80 for Sparks residents and $96 for non-residents. The fee includes a uniform top, pictures and tournament. Financial assistance is available for youth who cannot otherwise afford to take part in the program.

Pre-registration is required online at or by calling 353-2385. The Alf Sorensen Community Center is located at 1400 Baring Blvd. in Sparks.
