SPARKS — The Whole Foods Hometowne Farmer’s Market held in Victorian Square during the summer has been recognized as one of America’s Favorite Farmer’s Markets in a national online contest sponsored by American Farmland Trust. The contest is a nationwide challenge to see which of America’s farmers’ markets can rally the most support from their communities. During the month of August, more than 80,000 votes were cast online in support of nearly 1,700 participating farmers’ markets organized into four different categories based on size.
In the large market category, for markets with more than 56 vendors, the Whole Foods Hometowne Farmer’s Market placed 13th in the nation and finished in first place among markets held in Nevada.
American Farmland Trust holds the annual America’s Favorite Farmers Markets contest to raise national awareness about the importance of buying fresh food from local farms and saving the farmland where it’s grown.
