RENO — September is officially (as declared by Gov. Brian Sandoval, the city of Reno, the city of Sparks and Washoe County) Hunger Action Month.  As a part of Hunger Action Month a full Thirty Ways in Thirty Days calendar has been filled with events, food drives and volunteer opportunities offering ways for everyone to get involved in the fight against hunger.

Thursday is the day to go for a frozen yogurt treat at Yogurt Beach. Yogurt Beach is holding a fundraiser for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada for all three of their locations in the Reno/Sparks area. If you go to any of the three yogurt shops on Thursday and mention the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, they will donate 20 percent of your order to the food bank.

Each dollar donated to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada can provide four meals to those who need them.

Yogurt Beach locations are at 784 South Meadows Pkwy. and 3882 Mayberry Dr. in Reno and 113 Los Altos Pkwy. in Sparks. All three locations are open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and the fundraiser will go through the entire day on Thursday.

Hunger is a very serious issue right here in Nevada. One in five children in Nevada live in a home where there is not enough food for three meals per day, and one in six people in Nevada needs to seek food assistance and may tap the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to keep food on the table for their families. Throughout September, there will be opportunities to get involved.

Individuals who want to help spread the word and share our celebrity video with friends or to view the 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar, visit the Food Bank of Northern Nevada website at fbnn.org.
