The Reed High volleyball team got off to a hot start only to hit a rocky road later in its match Thursday night at Carson. Still, Reed regrouped and pulled out a 25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 15-8 triumph over the host Senators in a Northern 4A crossover league match.

The visiting Raiders improved to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in conference clashes.

Reed middle blocker McKinley Chesley pounded 15 kills and got up five digs to lead her club. Mo Maluotoga lifted a team-high 16 digs, served up three aces and put down six kills to help the winning cause.

Micayla Huff and Taylor Stefan gave away 19 and 15 assists respectively for Reed. Both also got up 10 digs. Olivia Emerson chipped in nine kills and three blocks for the Raiders.

“I was definitely pleased with the win,” Reed coach Kristen Flagtvedt said. “In the first and second games we came out strong. In the third and fourth games we didn’t play as consistent. We made too many errors. In the fifth game we pulled it back together and it made a big difference. I thought today we got more hitters involved which also makes a difference.”

Reed returns to the court today for a non-league match at Truckee.
