RENO — Join Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful for the Truckee River Cleanup Day from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Sept. 24. Volunteers are needed to help keep clean sites spanning more than 20 miles along the river from Verdi to Lockwood.

Projects include trash pick-up, graffiti removal, storm drain stenciling and removing weeds. A volunteer appreciation barbecue will take place at Rock Park in Sparks after the event.

Last year, more than 600 residents volunteered and removed more than eight tons of trash from the river.

For more information and to sign up to volunteer, visit or call 851-5185.

The Truckee River Cleanup Day is sponsored by the Truckee River Fund through the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada. Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful is private, nonprofit that is dedicated to creating a cleaner, more beautiful region through education and active community involvement.
