RENO — Cabela’s outdoor outfitter will host its Waterfowl Classic, the retailer’s biggest waterfowl event of the season, Sept. 17 and 18, at stores across the United States, including the Reno store.

Some of the biggest names in the waterfowl industry will be on hand to sign autographs, demonstrate products and help participants become better duck and goose hunters by conducting seminars and visiting one-on-one. With giveaways, early-bird specials and seminars, this free, multi-day event offers novice and experienced waterfowl hunters alike a great opportunity to hone in on new duck and goose tactics and let fly a few hunting stories of their own with the experts.

Additionally, the Nevada duck calling contest will be held Sept. 17 outside in front of the store, with registration at 8 a.m. and the various age division contests to follow, starting at 9:30 a.m. The registration fee is $40 for those 17 and older while the junior duck (age 12 and under) and intermediate duck (ages 13 to 16) contests are free. Prizes will be awarded to the winners and the state champion will also win $500 to be used for travel expenses for competing in the World Duck Calling Championships in Stuttgart, Ark., this fall. Following the state duck calling contest there will be a goose calling contest. For more information about the state duck calling contest, call Dave Stanley at 853-7368.

The store will also host representatives from the National Rifle Association for NRA Weekend both days and new members or those renewing their memberships will receive a $25 Cabela’s gift card. The first 50 life members who show their membership card will receive a free Cabela’s 50th anniversary signature 13-inch attaché pistol case.
