RENO — Saint Mary’s Medical Group is expanding its physician team to offer more services to patients with heart and vascular conditions.
Dr. James Lee has joined the group as an interventional cardiologist. Interventional cardiologists are specialists who use non-surgical techniques such as cardiac catheterization to diagnose and treat the heart. In this role, Dr. Lee will work alongside the new cardiology medical director, Steven Herrmann, Ph.D., M.D., to develop collaborative patient care models.
Dr. Lee is a medical graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine and trained in internal medicine as a resident. Additionally, Dr. Lee completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of California, Irvine and later at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Lee is board certified in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease, and is a fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and the American College of Cardiology.
Dr. Steven C. Herrmann has joined the multi-specialty physician practice as cardiology medical director. Dr. Herrmann and Dr. Lee are the first specialists to join the 14 primary-care physicians already part of SMMG. Dr. Herrmann will lead new initiatives designed to further improve patient outcomes based on evidence-based medical protocols.
Dr. Herrmann brings a specific clinical interest of helping patients with non-surgical interventions to lower cholesterol, manage blood pressure and improve heart-related health habits, including cardiac rehabilitation and other wellness-based programs. He has received a number of awards from fellow clinicians and patients for clinical excellence, including multiple listings in the Consumer Research Council’s Best Cardiologists in the USA.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Herrmann has served as the site principal investigator of the WARCEF trial at Saint Louis University, and is in Who’s Who for medical school educators in the United States. Dr. Herrmann has multiple publications and text book chapters in areas such as cardiac physiology, echocardiography and cardiac hemodynamics.
A graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. Herrmann holds a doctorate in cardiac physiology and biophysics from the University of Washington and is a fellow with the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography.
