MODESTO, Calif. — The plight of hospitalized children really caught the attention of Save Mart, S-Mart Foods, Lucky, FoodMaxx and Maxx Value Foods’ customers and employees during the company’s annual “Helping Hands, Healing Kids” icon campaign.

The stores sold paper icons for $1 in July. Enthusiastic employees and Save Mart shoppers stepped up to the plate with generous support, raising $202,231.

“We are excited about the enthusiasm shown by both our employees and customers in support of Children’s Hospitals,” said Steve Junqueiro, president and chief operating officer of Save Mart. “These are challenging times financially but in giving even small amounts by many caring folks we can certainly make a difference.”

Children’s Hospitals provide essential 24-hour care and services such as trauma, burn, neonatal intensive care and pediatric intensive care units to children from all counties in California and children with special needs from throughout the country and the world.

Save Mart Supermarkets operates 236 stores throughout Northern California and northern Nevada.
