RENO — Pete Copeland was named executive director Monday for The Great Reno Balloon Race by the event’s board of trustees. Serving as a volunteer and a trustee this year, Copeland has made great strides in helping the event become more financially secure through soliciting new sponsorships and creating new revenue opportunities.
“I’m so excited to begin a new challenge and use my skills to make the balloon race even better than the past 30 years have been,” Copeland said. “This is a trademark event in our community, and I’m looking forward to being a part of the incredible team that makes it happen.”
Copeland, who was publisher and one of the founders of Northern Nevada Business Weekly, will join event coordinator Tasha Courtney as the operations staff for the ralloon race starting Oct. 1.
