Tribune/Dan McGee - With Hot August Nights starting some early birds are arriving in Sparks and Reno. One of them is Bill Fuller, who drove his 1951 Chevrolet station wagon, also known as a "Tin Woody," from Portland, Ore. The car got its nickname because the exterior trim is artificial wood. Fuller has enhanced the car with a modern V-8 and drove it to the Nugget from Portland. "They were built to drive," he said.

SPARKS — Hot August Nights announced Monday that several construction zones might cause delays to certain event sites located around the Victorian Square and South Virginia Street areas.

There will be continuing road construction on both U.S. Highway 395 and Interstate 80 during Hot August Nights, which runs through Sunday. Drivers should expect delays when traveling to Hot August Nights events in Victorian Square due to construction on Interstate 80 between Keystone Avenue (Exit 12) and East 4th Street/Victorian Avenue (Exit 16).

When traveling to events on South Virginia Street in Reno, construction delays are possible on U.S. 395 between the junction of Kietzke Lane and Virginia Street (Exit 63) to the junction of Oddie Boulevard (Exit 69). There also will be ramp closures, including the westbound on-ramp from East Fourth Street, as well as both the westbound Wells Avenue on-ramp and off-ramps.

Reduced speed limits apply for these areas and will be enforced 24 hours a day for the duration of Hot August Nights events.

In Sparks, Victorian Avenue between Pyramid and 14th Street will be closed through Sunday at 5 p.m. The closure will extend to 16th Street between 6 and 10:30 p.m.

Also, west and eastbound Interstate 80 exits to Pyramid Way will close from 6 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. West and eastbound Interstate 80 exits to Rock Boulevard will close on Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 10:30 p.m., and Wednesday through Saturday from Noon until 10:30 p.m.

Pyramid Way will be closed between C Street and Interstate 80 from 6 to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
