RENO — Bishop Manogue Catholic High School will implement a new academic calendar this school year. A key feature of the new schedule is that the first semester will be completed on Dec. 22, prior to the Christmas holiday. This means teachers won’t have to “re-teach” for finals, and students will “start fresh” after a three-week break.

“By maximizing academic instruction time prior to the break, students have been shown to retain more, and perform better on finals,” Principal Tim Jaureguito said in a press release. “The schedule also allows for more quality instruction time prior to national assessment tests, and more closely mirrors that of most colleges.”

In order to finish the first semester by Dec. 22, Manogue students will be returning to school Aug. 15, two weeks prior to Washoe County schools. To see Bishop Manogue’s 2011-2012 academic calendar in its entirety, visit www.bishopmanogue.org.
