At about 9:30 p.m., Sparks police were called to the area of Greg and 21st streets on the report of a man down in the roadway. Upon arrival, officers learned that the man who was in the roadway was a pedestrian who had been struck by a tractor-trailer. REMSA and Sparks Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and began treatment. The pedestrian, whose name is not yet being released, was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center with injuries that are described as life-threatening.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk and was east of the intersection at the time he was struck. There is a crosswalk on the far west side of the intersection. It is not known if alcohol was a factor in the incident. The driver of the truck was cooperating with the investigation, and his name is not yet being released. The truck is owned by USF Reddaway.
Sparks police are seeking any witnesses to this accident. Anyone who saw the incident, or saw a man wearing a red T-shirt and jeans in or around the roadway near the time of this accident, is asked to contact the Sparks police traffic section at 353-2432 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
