RENO — The northern Nevada region saw an increase in the number of companies that relocated to and expanded in the greater Reno-Tahoe area over the past 12 months, according to a report from the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN). This points to an uptick in business activity in an otherwise still sluggish economy.

Together with many business and community partners, EDAWN helped 17 companies move to and expand in the region between July 1, 2010 and June 30, creating 670 new jobs compared to the 11 companies and 513 jobs reported last year — a 55 percent increase in the total companies and a 31 percent increase in the total jobs created year over year.
