RENO — Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating a trend of forced-entry vehicle burglaries reported at local parks, trails and various parking lots. These suspects not only are hoping to discover unlocked doors and vehicle windows, they also are making entry by smashing windows.

These perpetrators are targeting women who leave their vehicles without a purse. When entry is made, a purse is stolen and the credit cards used.

Video surveillance from a local store shows a man and a woman using a stolen credit card immediately after deputies were dispatched to the vehicle burglary scene. The man is described as being white, in his mid- to late 30s, bald with a large build, tattooed on his forearms and driving a black and gray newer-model Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer SUV. The woman is described as being white or Hispanic in her late 20s with black hair, last seen wearing a floral-print summer dress and having a large unknown tattoo on her upper right shoulder blade.

Anyone who is a victim of a vehicle burglary or sees these individuals or other suspicious activity is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division at 328-3320 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
