RENO — As of today, Santo Gaming will begin managing the casino operations at Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) on behalf of the resort’s owners, The Meruelo Group.

CEO Tony Santo and his team were originally brought in to manage all non-gaming assets in 2010. Santo Gaming has extensive experience in the gaming and hospitality industry, and currently manages and operates the Plaza Hotel and Casino, the Las Vegas Club Hotel and Casino and the Western Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

“We’re pleased with the relationship we have with Tony Santo and his team,” said Alex Meruelo, CEO of the Meruelo Group. “During their tenure with the property we have seen improved operating results, so it was only natural to extend their reach to the casino as well. As we continue to invest in the property, we are confident that Santo Gaming has the experience to lead Grand Sierra into a new era of gaming success.”

“There are no plans to make any staffing changes to the casino” Santo said in a press release. “We’re looking forward to many new and exciting improvements to the casino, and to implementing a grand vision for the property. Our intention is to improve the product and service throughout the casino. In the past this property was known not only as a local’s casino, but also drew in high-end players from other markets. Our plans are to restore that reputation to once again become the number one casino in Reno.”
