Save Mart’s owner Bob Piccinini, a car and racing enthusiast, debuted Big Red at this year’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Toyota Save Mart 350 in Sonoma, Calif. The customized cart is 12 and a half feet tall, 8 feet 3 inches wide and 11 feet long and weighs 3,000 pounds. Its 28-gallon tank uses 110-octane Sunoco race fuel. The engine is a Watson Racing Chevy 454 with 520 horse power with 550 foot-pounds of torque. The transmission is a Turbo 400, has a custom-built rear end housing with a Ford 9-inch gear with 3:73 gear ratio. Although top speed is undetermined at this time, the cart is built for speed accelerating from 0 to 60 in about eight seconds.
To kick off Hot August Nights and celebrate Save Mart’s sponsorship, Big Red will visit each Nevada Save Mart store and give the community an opportunity to take pictures. Accompanying Big Red is the Hot August Nights Consumer Contest grand prize: a 2011 Camaro Coupe with a 3.6 LT V6 engine, six-speed automatic transmission valued at more than $30,000. Five lucky consumers will be randomly drawn from all entries and appear at the Grand Sierra Hotel and Casino to receive a key. One of the five keys will start the engine and determine the winner.
In Reno and Sparks, the vehicles will appear at the following dates and locations:
Friday: 10500 N. McCarran Blvd. in Reno from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 525 Keystone Ave. in Reno from 4 to 7 p.m.
