Free seminar offers updates on foreclosure and short sales

RENO — New Start Nevada, a program dedicated to distressed homeowner education, is offering a free seminar featuring expert advice on short sales, loan modifications and foreclosure options

The Seminar will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 at the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall, 4001 S. Virginia St. at Peckham Lane.

Founded by Realtors and Certified Distressed Property Experts (CDPE) Tami Ritz and Nicole Reel, New Start Nevada is presenting a series of free workshops to help the community.

Panelists will include Reno real estate attorney Judith A. Otto, who specializes in working with clients facing foreclosure, along with Ritz and Reel, Realtors with Keller Williams Realty Group One, Inc. Topics will include:

• Who qualifies for a short sale.

• The difference between loan modifications, short sales and foreclosure.

• Tax and credit implications.

• Post-short sale recovery techniques.

• How to avoid fraud in the distressed sales market.

Attendees will be able to ask questions after the presentations and will be given handouts, including a financial worksheet, sample hardship letter and contact information for resources.

“Our mission at New Start Nevada is to save homeowners from foreclosure and protect our housing market from further decline,” Reel said.
