RENO — The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a local business owner who was the victim of several thefts from the company’s vending machines. A case was initiated and assigned to the All Threats All Crimes Task Force (ATAC) to investigate.
During the course of the investigation, detectives from ATAC worked closely with detectives from the Reno Police Department who were also investigating similar thefts with a related modus operandi. This became a joint investigation.
The investigation focused on the primary suspect, Robert Railey. ATAC, RPD Detectives, RPD Street Enforcement Team (SET) and Sparks Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) all began working closely to locate Railey.
He was found during the early morning hours of July 23, and has been formally charged and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility with 34 criminal charges associated with his crime spree.
Railey’s bail has been set at $83,548. Additional charges may be forthcoming as Railey has been linked to about 140 burglaries throughout the Reno-Sparks area.
